Dr. Karen Lumb, D.C. grew up in a family where four generations of her family have received chiropractic care, beginning with her grandmother in rural Kansas in the 1930s, to her son Nick who received his first NSA entrainment as a seven day old newborn.
Dr. Karen was introduced to Network Care by her brother, Dr. Brian T. Lumb, who practices Network Care in Asheville, NC. “I had been experiencing headaches every week since I was 17 years old”, Dr. Karen explains, “as a result of being rear-ended by a drunk driver.” and had not experienced any consistent relief for about 15 years with traditional chiropractic care.
It wasn’t until she started receiving Network Care that she noticed a huge difference not only in pain relief, but also in how she was living her life. “I noticed that once I started getting consistent Network Care, my life started shifting in subtle and not so subtle ways.” For example, she noticed that she had more energy, was much better able to deal with daily stressors, and was a happier person and mom as a result. “I also noticed that I started to live my life and make decisions and take actions based on who I truly was, and not an idea of who I was supposed to be.” At this time, Dr. Karen was working in Los Angeles as a Speech Pathologist and started a private practice, Pathways to Speech. With 15 years of experience as a Speech Pathologist, she specialized in pediatrics, and managed a very successful speech therapy practice in Pasadena, California.
The inspiration to study chiropractic to practice Network Spinal Analysis came at this time when two of her speech therapy clients, ages 3 and 4, both diagnosed with autism, started receiving NSA care. Both of these children began experiencing dramatic improvements in their speech and language skills, and in their ability to interact with others.
The mother of the 3 year old reported that “since starting NSA and SRI about 2 months ago we have seen our son’s speech grow from 3-4 word sentences to 6-7 word sentences, and he has begun asking questions for the first time. He is acquiring phrases like, “I’m glad to see you!” and “How are you doing?” and “Come on in!” from us…and he is using them appropriately in context. He is more present and engaging socially with us at home and with his peers at school. Last week for the first time, he spontaneously said, “I love you, Daddy!” with no prompting from anyone. His imaginative play is more and more extensive;…He often engages his sister to play with him….His self-stimulatory behavior is more regulated.”
Dr. Karen initiated and completed a yearlong case study involving these two children with autism and speech and language delays as they received Network Spinal Analysis chiropractic care, documenting their profound improvements in speech and language abilities. This study has been published in the Journal of Pediatric, Maternal and Family Health (Click Here to Read) and was presented at the International Research and Philosophy Symposium (IRAPS) at Sherman College of Chiropractic in October, 2012.
With a BA in Advertising from San Jose State University, an MS in Communicative Disorders from San Francisco State University, Dr. Karen graduated Magna Cum Laude from Sherman College of Chiropractic with a Doctorate of Chiropractic. She belongs to the International Federation of Chiropractors and Organizations (IFCO), the Association for Reorganizational Healing Practices (ARHP), the Washington Chapter of the American Holistic Nurses Association (AHNA), and the Redmond Chamber of Commerce.
